What we found

Used throughout the light-measurement piece as the reference pot, because a porous pot makes the weighing method easier to read.

Not frost proof despite looking it. Ours cracked outdoors in January; keep it inside.

Good

  • Unglazed terracotta interior lets the rootball dry evenly
  • Hole is large enough not to block with compost
  • Shallow enough for a standard windowsill

Less good

  • Porous walls mean watering roughly 30% more often
  • Chips at the rim if knocked; ours has two
